The challenge

The retailer had an outdated mobile app with a 2.1-star rating and fewer than 50K active users. Meanwhile, mobile traffic to their website had grown to 68% of total visits, with a conversion rate 4× lower than desktop. They needed a rebuilt mobile experience that could drive purchase behavior and loyalty.

The solution

We rebuilt the app in React Native with a shared codebase for iOS and Android. User research uncovered three core jobs-to-be-done: quick reordering, discovering new arrivals, and checking order status. The new app featured personalized home feed, one-tap reorder, AR-powered product preview for home goods, and a loyalty points dashboard. We integrated with the client's Salesforce Commerce Cloud backend and Stripe for payments.

Outcomes

The app reached 500K downloads in its first year and achieved a 4.8-star rating. Mobile revenue grew 38% year-over-year. The app is now the highest-revenue channel in the business, surpassing both desktop web and in-store for the first time.
